Rudolf Lutz, Organ

Rudolf Lutz (* 1951) holds a professorship for improvisation at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and is the organist of the Protestant town church St Lawrence in St Gallen since 1973. In 2006, he was appointed artistic director of the J. S. Bach foundation St Gallen, where he delivers commented performances of the complete vocal works of Bach. His extensive teaching and lecturing activities as well as numerous concert performances contributed considerably to a new understanding of historical improvisation and stylistics. Rudolf Lutz is invited regularly to give concerts and lead workshops (e.g. Bachfest Leipzig, Ansbach Bach Week, International Organ Academy Romain-Moutier, CNSMD Lyon, Orpheus Institute Gent, Sweelinck Conservatory Amsterdam). Apart from that, he works as a composer and accompanist as well as leader of literary-musical concerts and congress projects. In 2004, Rudolf Lutz was given the UBS Culture Award, and in 2006, he received the Canton of St Gallen Culture Award.
