Jens Hamann, Baritone

Jens Hamann was a member of the Stuttgart Hymnus-Chorknaben and Kammerchor Stuttgart. In 2007 he completed his studies at the Staatliche Musikhochschule Mannheim under Rudolf Piernay and at the Opernschule Mannheim. He was the winner of Saarland Radio’s Special Early Music Award for “outstanding achievements in oratorio singing” and in 2008 was honored as Bach Prize Winner at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition Leipzig. The Carus recording of Michael Haydn’s Requiem, in which he performed with the KammerChor Saarbrücken under Georg Grün and as a soloist, won the 2007 MIDEM Classical Award as “best first-time recording.” Mr. Hamann has most recently performed in concert in Russia, Belgium and Italy, where he appeared in Haydn’s Harmony Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City under the direction of Helmuth Rilling. In 2009 he performed Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem on a tour of France, Poland and Germany with the Rhineland-Palatinate Youth Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Hamann’s concert career has taken him to concert halls such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Berlin’s Konzerthaus and the Liederhalle in Stuttgart. His numerous CD recordings and lieder recitals with Irwin Gage and Wofram Rieger document his artistic accomplishments.
