David Pia, Cello

The cellist David Pia was born in 1982 and began his studies as a “junior student†at the Basel Music Academy in Antonio Meneses’ class. Subsequently, he studied under Clemens Hagen at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. He has participated in master classes by David Geringas, Bernard Greenhouse, Heinrich Schiff and Janós Starker and won the International Tchaikovsky Competition 2007 in Moscow. He played debuts at festivals in Lucerne, Davos, Montreux and Kronberg and accompanied Sarah Chang and the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra on a concert tour. Since 2010, David Pia has lectured at Bern University of Arts as assistant to Antonio Meneses and gives master classes across Europe. He is also a member of the jury at the Tonali Grand Prix in Hamburg. David Pia plays a 1697 Giovanni Grancino violoncello.
