Marcus Weiss, Saxophone

Marcus Weiss studied saxophone at the Musikhochschule Basel under Iwan Roth as well as at Northwestern University in Chicago under Frederick L. Hemke. He won the Soloist Prize of the Association of Swiss Musicians in 1989. He has performed with many different European orchestras as well as partnering as a chamber musician with Trio Accanto and the Xasax Saxophone Ensemble of Paris. Georges Aperghis, John Cage, Beat Furrer, Helmut Lachenmann, Salvatore Sciarrino, Detlev Müller-Siemens, Giorgio Netti, Vinko Globokar, Aldo Clementi, Toshio Hosokawa, Manuel Hidalgo and others have written compositions for him. His recordings include performances of music by the composers just mentioned as well as works by Schönberg, Webern, Wolpe, Cage, Scelsi, Netti, Ablinger and Sciarrino.
