William Blank, Composer

The composer and conductor William Blank was born in 1957 in Montreux.His works are performed in many famous venues (Geneva’s Victoria Hall, the Lucerne Culture and Congress Center, the Zurich Tonhalle, the Paris Philharmonie, Antwerp’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, London’s Wigmore Hall, the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building in Oxford, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, Vienna’s Musikverein, Salzburg’s Festspielhaus, the Venice Biennal, Saint Petersburg’s Philharmonia and Mariinsky Theatre, the Shanghai Symphony Hall and Tokyo’s Suntory Hall) by conductors such as Kasuyoshi Akiyama, Armin Jordan, Jean Deroyer, Heinz Holliger, Fabio Luisi, Zsolt Nagy, Pascal Rophé, Dennis Russell Davies, Pinchas Steinberg and Antony Wit.
In 2001, he received the Award of the BCV Foundation (Banque Cantonale Vaudoise) for his life’s work. As artist in residence of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, he wrote Exodes, dedicated to Kofi Annan and premiered in October 2003 on the occasion of the United Nations Day in New York. After several other commercial recordings, his orchestral music has just been released.
