Born in Geneva, Katia Braunschweiler began playing the piano at the age of six and became a student at the Geneva Conservatory three years later. While working toward her Abitur in 2003, she was accepted into the piano class of Alan Weiss (Netherlands). She obtained her Bachelor of Music in 2005, subsequently earning her Master of Solo Performance with honors in 2007.

The pianist undertook further studies at the Zurich University of the Arts with Eckart Heiligers, completing her concert diploma in 2009 and teaching diploma in 2011 with honors. She went on to teach at the Winterthur Youth Music School, where she still serves on the faculty. Braunschweiler has participated in numerous courses with renowned masters including György Sándor, Maria João Pires, Jeremy Menuhin, Sylviane Deferne, Alexis Golovine, Igor Bagolatov, Anton Kuerti, André Laplante, Bernard Greenhouse, Menahem Pressler, Bruno Canino, and Pierre Amoyal, who provided inspiration for her artistic development.

In 2009 she won Second Prize at the Duttweiler-Hug Study Foundation and First Prize at the 2010 Landolt Competition in Zurich. In 2010 she received a scholarship from the Dienemann Foundation and won the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation’s Live Music Now Competition in 2011.

An active concert career as a soloist, vocal accompanist, and chamber musician have taken Braunschweiler to Switzerland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Austria. She places special emphasis on cultivating a broad repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary works, and has performed many successful recitals at important musical centers including the Vredenburg Music Center Utrecht, Tonhalle Zurich, and Bösendorfer-Saal Vienna.

Both her long-standing interest in chamber music and affinity with jazz find expression in the Trio Fellini, founded in 2013 with Dimitri Ashkenazy, clarinetist and Katharina Weissenbacher, cellist.
