The exceptional cellist and young star Nicolas Altstaedt continues to enjoy great success. This year alone, he was the recipient of highly endowed prizes such as the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award and he will join the
and the programme BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists Scheme The Stars of Tomorrow for the years 2010-2012.

Nicolas Altstaedt won the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award for his “small life’s work.” The jury was unanimous in their decision to award him this prize for young artists. In addition to 75,000 Swiss francs, the prize included a successful appearance on 17 September with the Vienna Philharmonic under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel at the Lucerne Festival.

At the awards ceremony, Nicolas Altstaedt stated that he is planning the world premiere recording of works for cello and piano of the Munich composer Wilhelm Killmayer. The BBC Radio 3 Award Award is especially concerned with encouraging young, promising musicians. The prize contains radio concerts at Wigmore Hall and the LSO St. Luke’s as well as CD recordings with the five BBC orchestras and a prominent presence at BBC Radio.
