ARD Music Competition: GENUIN Awards Special Prize to the Aris Quartet

As part of the 65th ARD International Music Competition, which is being held in Munich from August 29th to September 16th, 2016, GENUIN is awarding a special award for the second time. This year's GENUIN Prize goes to the Aris quartet, which won both the second prize and the Audience Prize at the ARD Music Competition at the Prinzregentheater in Munich on Saturday.

Founded in Frankfurt in 2009, the Aris Quartet is currently one of the most sought after young string quartets. Their breakthrough occurred after winning first prize at four international competitions: the 2012 Brahms Competition in Poertschach (Austria), the 2013 European Chamber Music Competition in Karlsruhe, the 2014 August Everding Music Competition in Munich and the 2016 Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition in Weimar. Moreover, the Aris quartet was recently awarded the Chamber Music Award of the Jürgen Ponto Foundation, one of the most prestigious awards in the industry.

With the special GENUIN Prize, the Aris Quartet has earned itself a CD production that is expected to be released next year in the GENUIN series specifically devoted to this prize. The prize will be awarded to the four young musicians on Friday by GENUIN recording engineer Michael Silberhorn as part of the prizewinner's concert in the Herkulessaal of the Residenz in Munich. The concert, which will be televised by BR Television and features a performance by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, will be moderated by Barbara Malisch, the chief spokesperson of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation.

The first prizewinner CD of this GENUIN series was released just a few weeks ago. The American soprano Emalie Savoy won in 2015 in the category singing. Her debut album, featuring works by Ravel, Tchaikovsky, Drovák, Weber and Barber touches listeners around the world with the lyrical beauty of her soprano voice and the dramatic passion of her singing.
